Distinction:
Deutscher Lichtdesignpreis 2018 – winner shop illumination

After the renovation, the Löwen Apotheke in the Fontane House presents itself with timeless modern interior architecture. The dark wood furnishings create a warm atmosphere with a high quality of stay. To emphasise this, the lighting concept is also designed to be very clear and sensitive, allowing the viewer an undisturbed impression of space.

The wall shelves in the salesroom are effectively illuminated with narrow-beam recessed ceiling luminaires in neutral white light colour (4,000 K / CRI 95). The clear presentation of the goods is supported by the light-dark contrast between the goods and the dark wood. It was important that no light cones stood out on the top shelf panel and on the rear shelf walls, in order to avoid visual ballast.

In the area of the windows with the bench seats in front, recessed ceiling downlights have been added as reading lights, also in neutral white light colour.

The sales counter/dispensing areas axis is differentiated with warm light colour (3,000 K). Above the sales counter, direct-indirect pendant luminaires ensure a glare-free view and support the warm atmosphere of the darkened room with diffuse ceiling illumination.
The dispensing area, separated by a glass wall, is illuminated with narrow-beam recessed ceiling luminaires according to the work area.

The passageway to the back office is in the visual axis of the entrance, at the end of which hangs a floor-to-ceiling portrait of Theodor Fontane, accentuated with grazing light, which establishes the reference to the birthplace. The basic lighting of the passageway and the pull-out medicine cabinets located there is provided by a double arrangement of downlights, When the pull-outs are closed, these downlights do not create any light cones on the surfaces and thus do not interfere with the view of the portrait due to intrinsic luminance and radiation from luminaires.
