Town square
Eggenfelden
Distinction:
Lamp Lighting Solution Awards `13 – Finalist – Urban and Landscape Lighting
The revitalisation of the Eggenfelden town square was part of the inner city redevelopment in Eggenfelden and was implemented structurally as part of a competition from 07/2011 to 10/2012. In the process, the lighting concept was also changed, as the existing lighting consisted solely of uniformly positioned pole luminaires, which were fitted with sodium vapour. Due to their low fade-out properties, they presented the space in a very undifferentiated and uniform way and caused considerable glare. The newly planned lighting concept therefore focuses mainly on visual lighting quality over numerical lighting values:
The coloured stone façades and the subtle transition of different ground materials are presented in an original form by illuminating the entire town square in good or very good colour rendering quality (everything in HIT 830, only vertical surfaces with HIT 942).
With the help of adequate fade-outs, glare, light disturbance to local residents and light pollution into the night sky were prevented. There is therefore no erroneous radiation in the viewing area or above.
The beam angles of the luminaires are designed such that their light-shadow edges meet the base points of the façades. The latter are thus not subjected to random light cones, but are gently illuminated by the reflection of the ground alone, so that they can be perceived as an undivided whole.
To facilitate orientation on the square, vertical brightness was deliberately set in the form of façade illumination on the two distinctive historic buildings, each at the end of the square.
The square itself is illuminated by both façade spotlights and single-sided pole luminaires, the latter placing their lighting focus on the street so that there is a clear visual demarcation between pedestrian and vehicular areas. The pedestrian crossing is additionally emphasised by means of streak light.
Striking points such as the town fountain were staged as accents.
