Museum Island – part project Neues Museum (NMU)
Berlin
To counteract neutralisation of the stone façade at night, the lighting of the Neues Museum uses a neutral white light colour and excellent colour rendering quality. Not only does the building get a natural appearance, as if illuminated by moonlight, but a boundary is also created to the warm white illuminated colonnade courtyard in front.
Façade illumination is provided by the adjacent buildings and the colonnade roof, in order to be able to largely dispense with pole luminaires. Here, the light-shadow edges of the light fields are precisely matched to the geometry of the façade, so that neither unwanted light cones nor light pollution is produced due to erroneous radiation.
A very uniform, homogeneous illumination of the façade is achieved by luminaires specially developed for this installation.
